I am Patrick Eisermann – and as a spice sommelier I believe in the taste
I used to be a consultant. Suits, airports, full calendars. Things were going well. But something felt empty. I had exciting projects, great opportunities – and still the feeling: That can’t be it.
What I was missing was a connection. To nature. To meaning. To what I truly wanted to do with my time. In 2018, I quit my job and founded roots . Without a master plan, but with a clear conviction: I want to know where the things we eat come from. And I want to get them directly from there – honestly, respectfully, and without compromise on quality.
From then on, instead of Excel spreadsheets, I spent time talking to vanilla farmers in Indonesia, hiking through the Himalayas in search of pepper, cinnamon from the island of Pemba, and meeting people in Nepal. I quickly realized: If you really want to understand what’s in a spice, you have to look beyond color and price.
roots. is not a trading company. It’s an attitude.
I buy directly – without middlemen, without compromises.
But with real contact with the people who know what their soil smells like when the rain comes.
“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.” – 1 Timothy 4:4
This sentence stays with me. Not as a mission, but as a reminder that creation is valuable. That food not only satisfies us, but can also unite us. And that good taste begins at the root—with the plant, with the people, with the local soil.
I don’t believe in perfection. But I do believe in development. In quality that grows. And in food that’s honest. I love discovering new flavors, cooking, and asking what’s possible—when we know where something comes from again.
roots. is a family business. We—that is, my wife, our three children, and I—live with and for what we do. We produce everything ourselves, fresh, in small batches. Not an industrial process, but true craftsmanship with meticulous attention to detail.
I know the people from whom we source our spices personally.
There are no middlemen, no anonymous supply chains. We speak directly, listen, and build relationships. Not because it looks good, but because it’s the only way we want to work—and can.
Today, I’m no longer searching. I’m on the journey—together with people who are eager to rediscover spices. If you want to experience the power, flavor, and history inherent in authentic nature, join us. We’ll show you what’s inside.
